my sweet nasty lunacy
A lecture performance that derails, a hysterical hyperpop EP and an angry ode to the weird femme. my sweet nasty lunacy is a solo by Hélène Vrijdag. A live EP sung from her alter ego Woman Folly, a queer and feminist answer to the character Vrouwe Zotte (Lady Folly) from Erasmus’ Lof der Zotheid (Praise of Folly). The concert is a collection of hyper-pop bangers as an ode to the hysterical femme. In an arena of moving lights and pop-concert conventions, Woman Folly sings her soft setlist from sweet sweet hell.
Hyperpop, with its eclectic and whimsical nature, fits perfectly with the correspondence with Vrouwe Zotte (Lady Folly). Think influences from Björk, Charli XCX, Arca and SOPHIE. The research focuses on queer, feminist and decolonial perspectives, inspired by works such as Pleasure Activism by Adrienne Maree Brown and Audre Lorde’s Uses of the Erotic.
my sweet lunacy is a production of Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam.
