English singer-songwriter Nick Mulvey returns to Rotterdam for a concert at the Maassilo. Think uplifting rhythms, minimalist melodies, intelligent lyrics and conjuring guitar riffs.

Several years ago, Mulvey traded Portico Quartet for a solo career, and these days travels the festival and club landscape with his guitar to share his conjuring and catchy folk pop with the world. Nick has swapped the hanging drum for a guitar since beginning his solo career, but the percussion in his DNA is (thankfully) still very much alive. His songs feature plenty of African and South American rhythms, while at the same time displaying the minimalism of the likes of Nick Drake and Steve Reich. “It doesn’t have to be complex, but it has to be animated. Singer-songwriter stuff, Philip Glass – it’s all in there.”

As a solo artist, with three albums and two Mercury Prize nominations to his name, it is clear that Mulvey has become an exceptional artist with a profound skill and knowledge that enables him to take his sound into multiple directions.
