Jazz legend José James knows no boundaries when it comes to genres: dancing between traditional and contemporary jazz, soul, funk, house but also rock, he delivers a sound that can only be described as phenomenal. On March 6, 2023, he will be performing at Annabel!

José James is not only known for his super smooth version of Bil Whither’s Lovely day, and They Can’t Take That Away From Me by Frank Sinatra; José also boasts an impressive repertoire of songs of his own such as Trouble, among others. James was born in Minnesota but also spent part of his childhood in Seattle, and he didn’t inherit his musical talent from a stranger; his father was a multi-instrumentalist with the same name. As such, James began performing as early as his teenage years. His album The Dreamer, released in 2008, brought him worldwide recognition for his effortlessly sounding blend of jazz, electronica, soul and pop. He has since released 11 critically acclaimed albums and has collaborated with the likes of Flying Lotus, Robert Glasper, Aloe Blacc and Jason Moran.

On his upcoming album On & On (release Jan. 20, 2023), James honors THE jazz singer of this hip-hop generation, Erykah Badu, while throwing down the gauntlet to the past 100 years of jazz vocals as he outlines a path for the culture leading forward.
