Welly is a person, but also a gang – kind of like Scooby Doo, in their own words. Most importantly, they are the perfect remedy from the overload of austere & angst-ridden agit-rockers. True, music reflecting the times is important, but churning out top shelf pop anthems to be cranked up in the karaoke machines of the future is an equally pressing matter.

Frontman Elliot Hall, bassist Jacob Whitear, guitarists Matt Gleeson and Joe Holden-Brown, and keyboardist Hanna Witkamp (who brings some Dutch courage into the fray) show us that joy is its own rewarding form of revolt. Welly’s debut LP Big In The Suburbs draws from the playbooks of Pulp, Blur, Happy Mondays, and Arctic Monkeys, and their shoestring variety of such timeless bliss is no less fun, foolish and addicting.
