It’s quite miraculous how some of the most fresh and creative pop music can emerge in makeshift situations. Will Lister, Max Winter and Imogen Williams (Imogen and The Knife) each had fertile solo projects running when they were asked to do a residency together for soon-to-be defunct venue Laylow. Four basement concerts in four weeks, plus extensive recording sessions, fermented into thredd – one of the most exciting young bands currently residing in the UK.

thredd’s self-coined “cold pop” is the perfect alchemy of Lister’s talent for beat making and production, Winter’s grasp for harmony and arrangement, and finally Williams’s striking vocals and songwriting. Their atmospheric tracks evoke a wide range of emotions, from sinister to playful to vulnerable – sonically lurking somewhere in the range of Portishead, Gorillaz and Massive Attack.
