The Orchestra (For Now)
The enigmatic The Orchestra (For Now) is one of the UK’s most promising and fast rising bands, emerging from the hyper-creative scene around South London’s The Windmill venue. Their music sounds like it’s writhing within the The Last Shadow Puppets-to-King Crimson pipeline, veering from sinister post-punk, pastoral indie folk, to more cinematic, baroque-like arrangements.
The one constant in The Orchestra (For Now)’s shapeshifting sound is that they are really good at channeling the anxiety of the times, adding some horror elements into the mix. In the video for “Plan 7” sees a creature like Total Recall’s Kuato growing from frontman Joe Scarisbrick’s torso. In the video for “Hattrick” he sifts through some raw organs in a forest.
Indeed, ‘sensational’ and ‘slightly disturbing’ definitely co-exist in The Orchestra (For Now)’s young but formidable output so far.
