The Rotterdam ZIJlijn is a project by Anouk van Mil, social change designer and co-founder of the city-wide theme year, The Rotterdam Year of the Woman (2025). Her work focuses on social equality, emancipation, and representation. Using communication, design, and history, she explores how stories shape our view of society. She aims to make visible the invisible, audible the unheard, and connect what seems unrelated. Her starting point is the belief that communication is never neutral: how, where, with, and about whom we speak is always a conscious social act, with consequences we must be aware of. During this 30 minute interview, Anouk will highlight some key moments and people in the history of Rotterdam that have been overlooked for far too long.
