Mandy, Indiana
Manchester’s Mandy, Indiana tosses its listeners in a sonic battlefield not for the faint of heart. Guitars reverberate like heavy machinery, beats tangle your very innards inside out, synths smoulder like shrouds radioactive waste, and the vocals – courtesy of Valentine Caulfield – freeze your blood with the turn of a whisper. As logic would have it, a band of this makeup should by all means collapse into a disjointed, dysfunctional jumble.
But instead, Mandy, Indiana became a perfect organism powering through the ruin with elegant, noise-laden strides. Through bold and unconventional experimentation with fidelity and acoustics, the foursome found new fissions of possibility within the unruly wreckages. Call it necessary intervention, a novel form of sensitivity training or a quizzical – and unabashedly loud – four-ring circus: this is one of the finest bands currently traveling the globe.
“The music is abrasive, but in its most shocking moments, the band allows beauty to shine through the grime and static.” – Pitchfork
“An enthralling, danceable swirl of discordant EDM and crashing waves of unruly noise-rock” – The Guardian
