Kay Slice’s borderless music is intertwined with his life mission to build bridges between Africa and the diaspora – highlife odysseys that serve as a testament to his heightened awareness of roots and self-connection.

Slice’s vibrant and distinct mashup of spirited West African rhythms, soulful grooves, poetic rap, and highlife has impressed and enthralled at festivals like North Sea Jazz and Eurosonic Noorderslag. Resonant melodies of the balafon serve as a bridge to the essence of Ghana and his own identity, whereas the storytelling aspects of hip-hop become a powerful means to illustrate his experiences of being an immigrant youth.

In the wake of his excellent debut LP ‘From Back To Back’, Kay has entered a new phase, transcending the survival mode that held former generations in a chokehold, while remaining grounded to his own rich musical lineage. It translates into shows that are as baffling as they are entertaining. 

At Theater Rotterdam Krijn Boon on Friday, Kay Slice presents a special Deep Listening session – an auditory and sensory experience inspired by his musical and artistic journey to Ghana. Through a combination of music, visuals, and scents, the audience is taken on a transcendent journey, immersed in the higher realms of sound and the rich culture of the Afro-diaspora. Additionally, Kay Slice will perform a more stripped-down show for My First MOMO on Saturday during this year’s MOMO festivities.
