Digging the Sounds of Resistance

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the program ‘Reader Counterpower’ has been changed to ‘Digging the Sounds of Resistance’.

It’s hard to imagine social or political movements without sound. Would they carry the same power if they were silent? Anthems, chants, and songs don’t just accompany resistance — they amplify it. Sound can invite reflection, cry out in dissent, call others to action, and spark real change. From the Black liberation movement to the protests in West Asia, from Indigenous resistance across colonized lands to overexploited factory workers, communities have used sound as a powerful force to shake the world.

During this conversation, guided by Saina Salarian, you are invited to collaboratively explore the rich landscape of political and protest music. Together, you’ll listen to fragments of an archive, share reflections, and co-create a collective playlist.
