BCUC
It seems so simple when you break it down: bass, drums, percussion, voice chants all conspiring to spark radical movement. And the Soweto, South-Africa based collective Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness – abbreviated as BCUC, does this better than any band out there.
The pulse of BCUC’s Afropsychedelic pounce screams with a zealous, ceremonial spirit. It makes sense that band leader Jovi Nkosi likens BCUC more to workers than to artists: this is music awakened from ancient lineage, yet visionary, loud and transcending convention of what a band can be.
“BCUC have an impressive sense of dynamics, allowing songs to develop, fade away, change direction and then build to an often furious climax” – The Guardian
