Aïda Gabriëls at O. Festival

In a few weeks O. Festival will be back in Rotterdam with its international program of opera and theatre.

On the 27th of May, Aïda Gabriëls will present the exciting transdisciplinary performance The Wild Stage that stirs and fuels the imagination. Oester and Muziektheater Transparant delve deep into the very human need for escapism, navigating between rock, baroque, and electronica, between contemporary and classical.

The Wild Stage is a symbiotic convergence of human energy, inspired by the urge for escapism in Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s Mahagonny. The opera/music theater format is challenged by the confrontation with pop music, baroque instruments and electronic soundscapes. All this serves as a sonorous background against which an encounter between dance, fashion and performance can be seen.

oester creates performances and installations on the interface between music, theatre, visual arts, fashion and contemporary dance. In recent years, for example, Dance of the Seven Veils (around the figure of Salomé), Styx and Vacuum have sprung up. oester receives structural support from, among others, Muziektheater Transparant, Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, O. Festival Rotterdam, Motel Mozaïque, Gare du Nord in Basel; Needcompany and Axel Vervoordt Gallery. A collaboration with the KMSKA, the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, also recently started.
