Knats are a fresh-faced, all-the-rage jazz collective with a knack for going a little bit mad on stage, unabashed in cranking things up with their explosive rhythm section, breakneck-intensity and punk rock-mischief. In 2026, the group dedicated their second album A Great Day In Newcastle to their hometown of Newcastle.

This new collection of jams hangs its hat on the heavier side to the band’s sound, homing in further on their roots playing rock and metal. Featuring an array of collaborators and powerful storytelling from Newcastle poet Cooper Robson, it’s an unflinching portrait of working-class life in their home city, full of humour, optimism and grit.

“Jazz that is sprawling and eclectic, with gritty, menacing percussion one moment, and bright, groove-led horns the next” – The Guardian
