The rising UK project had proved one thing in its relatively short existence: that sweet, sweet soul music will never have an expiration date. These guys can find the soul in whatever sounds they are exposed to, and create pure magic with it on stage.

MRCY brings together the talents of Barney Lister and Kojo Degraft-Johnson. The former is a sought-after, genre-defying producer (known for his work with artists such as Obongjayar, Olivia Dean and Celeste), while the latter is a vocalist whose velvety voice has supported acts like Little Simz, Cleo Sol and Ego Ella May.

Although their roots lie in vastly different cultures, they found common ground in the timeless, soulful glow of Marvin Gaye and the contemporary sounds of acts like Khruangbin and Sault. They also share a common goal: bringing love and peace into this chaotic world.

Following caroline, Black Country, New Road, Tom Skinner and Nusantara Beat, MRCY is this year’s artist in residence! More about the program for the residency will be announced later.
