“Contact High: A Visual History of Hip Hop” – Opening Night

PRESENTED BY: REVOLT, HIPHOP HUIS, JOHN 106, MOTEL MOZAIQUE

Hip-hop celebrates its 50th anniversary on August 11. To celebrate this, the American photo exhibition “Contact High: A Visual History of Hip-Hop” will be held in the Ferro Gashouder in Rotterdam for three weekends from 11 to 26 August. In addition to many iconic photos that have spread the visual language around hip-hop worldwide, the exhibition also contains exclusive and unedited contact sheets. Visitors are looking through the photographer’s lens at legendary shoots, such as those of Barron Claiborne’s famous Notorious B.I.G. portraits and Janette Beckman’s image-defining photos of Salt-n-Pepa. Don’t miss the talks, parties and live shows in the opening weekend.

During the opening on Friday 11 August, Motel Mozaïque, BIRD and Annabel will present a unique live show by the UK-based hip-hop ensemble OMA who made waves on social media over the past year with a broad repertoire ranging from 1970s soul jazz and alternative hip-hop but especially their adaptations of some great hip-hop anthems. Especially for the opening event of Contact High, they pay tribute to hip-hop with a madly of their favorite classics. Expect instrumental bangers from Wu-tang, Jay-Z and Dr Dre.

MC Winne presents the Old to the New feat (ADF Samksi, Alee Rock): the local MC will present a compilation of ‘old’ and ‘new’ classics, assisted in by two fellow MCs from different generations.
