The Halfway Kid

For British-Sudanese artist and songwriter Saeed Gadir, the moniker The Halfway Kid represents a constant state of never quite arriving, yet always meeting his audiences somewhere in the middle.

Gadir honed his storytelling prowess through the lineage of hip-hop, filtering that lightning rod lyrical punch into folk songs that reflect both beauty and struggle. “Anything To You”, for example, is a song about falling in love during times of war, while “Immigrant Song” addresses the yearning for a home when living in constant displacement: ‘Nobody loves home more than the one that’s never been’, he sings on the latter.

The Halfway Kid confronts the troubles and turmoil of the world with lightness, charisma and humor, allowing his music and message to resonate on a viral scale. Latest album ‘Myths in Modern Life’ dives deeper into the experience of being a Sudanese immigrant in Britain, juxtaposing city life with the civil war happening in Gadir’s homeland.
