On Thursday 18 April, Tom Skinner invites Composer, Daegeum soloist and Researcher Hyelim Kim to join him in a live and fully improvised performance.
As composer and daegeum (Korean flute) soloist, Kim has been using pioneering intercultural/interdisciplinary approaches in her music making that is rooted in Korean traditional music.
In April 2022, Skinner and Kim met for the first time, a meeting which would culminate in their first performance together in a fully spontaneous and improvised set curated by photographer George Nelson at Moments Notice, which took place at Amp Studios, London. Kim’s approach, entangled with Skinner’s versatile and adaptable style of playing, created an eerie and encapsulating performance that gripped the audience.
Since this chance meeting and performance, Skinner and Kim have been developing their sound together. Their performance at MoMo will delve deeper into this exploration of sound through their developments and further improvisations.
