“Motel Mozaïque was exciting and dynamic this year. This fifteenth edition did not have many outspoken headliners, but there seemed to have been more thought given to where artists would best perform; there were fewer lines and less crowded halls.
The astonishing, ever-growing, moving ‘blob’ of performer Connor Schumacher in the hall of the Theater. An entire outdoor square that takes no time at all to a spontaneously pounding house party with ‘dancers’ in clothing by designer Nada van Dalen. The emphasis may be on pop music at the two-day Rotterdam festival Motel Mozaïque, where the cultural life of the city takes center stage. But this weekend, unexpected theater performances and architectural routes also colored the experience. Such as the construction site tour by Parfum de BoemBoem, which took you past future musical hotspots in the city. Deep in the construction site that the new Annabel stage still is, singer Douwe Bob gave an acoustic solo performance.” – NRC Handelsblad

“The second city of the Netherlands does not have a medium-sized music venue and is constantly looking for performance opportunities. It is a thorn in the side of many Rotterdam music lovers and Motel Mozaique even has a debate about it on Saturday afternoon. The festival itself uses that shortcoming as a means to year to innovate and look for new ways, such as this second weekend of April.
You come to Motel for shows by often unknown artists who are rarely seen in the Netherlands and who bring something you have not seen before, or at least not in this form. Shows in which the location participates (Jake Isaac in the Paradijskerk, a location where it is tempting to stay seated all evening), a special collaboration, project or live show (Mysterons, Will Butler, Purity Ring), a special connection with the audience (The Notwist, Jake Isaac) or where an artist appears to confirm the promised promise (Lapsley, The Districts, Jake Isaac). “Following performances from over 50 artists, musicians and dancers, as well as a multitude of colorful art installations, the 2015 edition of Motel Mozaique came to end by means of a stellar headline performance courtesy of Canadian electro pop duo Purity Ring. Alongside their lightshow heavy set, though, were plenty of other performances which blew audiences away across various venues throughout the center of Rotterdam.
Another successful edition of Motel Mozaique has come to an end. With a whole year until the next edition, the clock has now started ticking as we wait in anticipation to see which 2015 acts will make it big in similar fashion to how George Ezra, Jungle and Temples emerged in 2014. One thing we’re already sure of, though, is that Motel Mozaique is one of the finest festivals Holland has to offer. It’s a festival full of surprises, one where you don’t know quite what to expect. MOMO Fabrique 2015
During the second edition of Fabrique Mozaique, on Saturday September 5, 2015, the adventurous and dynamic M4H area in the port of Rotterdam was central. The program includes a concert by Rats On Rafts at Het Val van De Hef, a live interview (BinnensteBuiten) with Kyteman, Parfum de BoemBoem routes through the port area including an exclusive tour at Studio Roosegaarde, the Guides of Motel Mozaique were active with various guided tours, including a real Baby Tour, and Theater Company Compagnie COVAR presented their latest production PSSST. Fabrique Mozaique in M4H took place during and in collaboration with the World Port Days.
M4H (Merwe-Vierhavens) is one of the four areas of Stadshavens Rotterdam and was once one of the largest fruit ports in the world. Now with the change in its position, it is an exciting and dynamic place in transition. More and more new activities are emerging in the vacant places, mainly from pioneers from the manufacturing industry and the creative sector. In the future, new forms of living and working will also find a place here.
During Fabrique Mozaique, the entire M4H was the festival site, with Fruitvis and Uit Je Eigen Stad as the festival heart. From here, routes through the area departed.
In 2015 MOMO Concerts hosted live shows by Yann Tiersen, Snarky Puppy, Triggerfinger, Balthazar, Brad Mehldau, Marcus Miller, dEUS and more.
