waterbaby
Sweden-based artist Kendra Egerbladh – who records under the moniker waterbaby – pens the kind of infectious, loose-limbed pop music that instantly perks up the ears. Her debut EP Foam – released by indie stalwarts Sub Pop – is peppered with sparkling ideas, melodies and textures, which Egerbladh conveys lyrically in both a magnetic and plainspoken way.
The name rings true indeed: waterbaby is like a fish in water doing music, as family ties also show. Her great-grandad was a jazz pianist, and her uncle worked in clubs and booked concerts. Her songs pour out like a second nature – never feeling too labored over, yet always opening a Pandora’s box of surprising, oddly compatable elements.
“Waterbaby makes music that is funny, heartfelt and intimate, cramming earworm hooks into warped bedroom pop productions” – The Guardian
