Kokoroko consist of eight musicians on a mission: to introduce afrobeat as listenend to by their parents and with which they grew up, to a younger generation of musiclovers.
This young British formation take their inspiration from the likes of West-African greats Fela Kuti and Ebo Taylor, but in their music you can also hear the unmistakable influences of the booming UK jazzscene. The band, lead by trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey, has already left quite an impression with their live shows in their home town of London. But 2019 will bring them even further when they will cross over to the continent and release their first EP.

Kokoroko bestaat uit acht muzikanten met een missie: de afrobeat die hun ouders draaiden en waar ze thuis mee opgroeiden, introduceren aan een nieuwe generatie muziekliefhebbers.
De jonge Britse formatie laat zich inspireren door West-Afrikaanse grootheden als Fela Kuti en Ebo Taylor, maar in haar muziek hoor je ook onmiskenbaar invloeden uit de booming UK jazzscene terug. Onder leiding van trompettiste Sheila Maurice-Grey maakte de band live al indruk op verschillende podia in hun thuisstad Londen. In 2019 staat de oversteek naar het Europese vasteland én de release van hun eerste EP op de planning.
