Sleeping project for MM13 announced

Each year the Motel Mozaïque Festival creates unusual sleeping places in the city. During the upcoming 13th edition of the festival, you can stay over Concert hall and conference center de Doelen! Amidst all festival locations and overlooking the Schouwburgplein, which we transform into festival heart Plaza Mozaïque again, you can get some rest for a new day. On the Schouwburgplein the festival daytime programming is concentrated. Also dozens of guided tours start here and in the Rotterdamse Schouwburg we organize concerts in the Main Hall during the daytime (for the first time we do this!) Artist Yvonne Beelen will create a sleeping experience: Zzzt …

Sleeping Project

Ever since the first edition of Motel Mozaïque we offer the guests of the festival the posibility to sleep over in special designed artworks or at remarkable locations in Rotterdam. For instance guests slept in tree huts, churches, shopwindows, on a constructionsite, at the festivalvenues, or last year on Campsite Mozaique on the rooftop of a national monument. Breakfast included of course! Last year we had a huge breakfast for 200 persons in the middle of Rotterdams largest shoppingstreet.

And now we really want visitors to ‘Stay over for the weekend’, that’s why Motel Mozaïque offers spacious sleeping facilities in de Doelen, so we can offer a complete festival experience. Festival visitors who buy a ticket for the sleeping project will sleep in the foyer on the first floor, with a beautiful view on the epicenter of the festival.

De Doelen

De Doelen is a renowned concert hall and a state-of-the-art conference center where each year more than 1,200 events take place, including some 600 concerts in all genres. The monumental building is literally in the middle of the city and cause of the very broad programming de Doelen offers something for everyone. In the past, icons such as Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Nirvana and Bruce Springsteen performed in de Doelen. In 2012 Motel Mozaïque and de Doelen started a collaboration to organize pop concerts. We did very successful shows: Tori Amos, Blaudzun and The Kyteman Orchestra. Now the collaboration gets a new twist.

Zzzt …

The city is like a festival: a source of shimmering energy, tingling, pulsating and intense. Daytime whipped by haste and bustle, and during the night we release it. Then we plunge into nothing, into a state of stillness and surrender. Do you understand the art of letting go? Zzzt … is a sleeping experience created by Yvonne Beelen, creator of earlier Motel Mozaïque sleeping performances in 2010 and 2011.

Tickets for the sleeping project cost € 25 (including breakfast) for Friday 5 or Saturday 6 April. Buy your sleeping ticket now! Please note: A sleeping ticket doesn’t provide access to the festival, you need an all-day ticket for the festival (€ 65, also available in our online ticketshop)
