As a very young woman in her twenties, Roufaida was already turning heads in Rotterdam’s music circuit. Under the name Southbound, she released her first EP in 2015, won the Grote Prijs van Rotterdam and played in the finals of the Grote Prijs van Nederland. With guitar, guembri and vintage Riffin cassette samples, she now makes subdued indie pop under her own name, in English as well as Arabic and Riffin. She has performed as supporting act to Curtis Harding and Con Brio, and has performed at a wide range of venues and festivals, including BIRD, Oerol and Motel Mozaique.
“Roufaida’s warm voice first puts you on the wrong track, but then she draws you into the dark with her hushed outbursts and idiosyncratic timing.” – The Daily Indie
