With only a handful of singles, London’s Lizbet Sempa could already count on a million Soundcloud followers at the age of sixteen. But when she found herself being pigeonholed as a black, soulful singer-songwriter, her success began to feel stifling.
Under the name Mysie, the now 25-year-old is now reinventing himself. On her EPs Chapter 11 and Undertones she continuously explores the dividing line between pop and experiment, using a whole range of influences: from her classical piano training via N.E.R.D and Mac DeMarco to Congolese singer Koffi Olomide. She got help from producer Fraser T. Smith, who previously worked with greats such as Adele and Stormzy.
