Norwegian songsmith Pål Moddi Knutsen, better known under the moniker Moddi, is a remarkable talent. He calls the distant arctic archipelago Senja his home and was discovered a few years ago by Björk-producer Valgeir Sigurðsson.
In his homeland, Moddi has become a star in his own right, slowly but surely assembling a fan base across European borders. Like with many Scandinavian peers, Moddi’s dabbles in an otherworldly, desolate sonic environment, where gentle, delicate sounds can drift unhindered. Moddi’s tranquil folk feels quite divergent in a way, with its swirling organic subtleties strangely coinciding with a restrained cadence. Power and delicacy go hand-in-hand. Calling Moddi Damien Rice’s Nordic counterpart isn’t a far fetched comparison to make. (Source: Rotown)
