Chaja Duke (1978, NL) and Nir Nadler (1977, IL) both studied at the audiovisual department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Their work has absurdist aspects and tells a deeper story with metaphors.
‘Four Riders’ is a video-installation. In this study of anatomy in movement, the horse’s body is deconstructed into massive landscapes of moving flesh and shiny hooves; projected onto four separate life-sized screens. Inspired by the apocalyptic atmosphere in Durer’s woodcut as well as by Eadweard Muybridge’s photography, this piece places the horse in a contemporary context by staging the wild and grotesque next to the restrained and elegant.
