Grian Chatten, leadsinger of the Irish formation Fontaines D.C., regularly wakes up next to a notebook filled with lyrics written in his sleep. It explains a lot about the poetic songs of this band.
Even though the rich, musical history of Dublin is a constant source of inspiration for the grainy post punk of these men, it didn’t take long before they gained recognition outside the borders of their hometown. Their excellent live shows at festivals like Iceland Airwaves and London Calling gained them a lot of praise by the likes of the NME, Stereogum and OOR. The last one even naming them the ‘Irish answer to Iceage’ , but had to come back on that reasoning: “They actually are the Irish answer to anything wild, raw and slightly dangerous.”
