The English singer-songwriter Nick Mulvey returns to Rotterdam for a concert in the Maassilo. Imagine stirring rhythms, minimalist melodies, profound lyrics and mesmerising guitar riffs.
A few years ago, Mulvey left Portico Quartet for a solo career and nowadays he travels with his guitar through the festivals and clubs landscape to share his enchanting folk pop with the world.
Since his solo career, Nick has traded the hang drum for the guitar, but his percussion gene is (luckily) still completely intact. In his songs you will find plenty of African and South American rhythms, but at the same time the minimalism of Nick Drake and Steve Reich. “It doesn’t have to be complex, but it has to be animated. Singer-songwriter stuff, Philip Glass – it’s all in there.”
As a solo artist, with three albums and two Mercury Prize nominations under his belt, it is clear that Mulvey has grown into an exceptional performer with a profound skill and knowledge that allows him to push his sound in multiple directions.
