Klangstof is a dynamic Norwegian / Dutch band led by Koen van de Wardt. Dynamic is the magic word: the group sounds as fragile as glass at times, other songs rise like raging flying cars through Blade Runner-like futuristic structures. Like his hero Thom Yorke, Van de Wardt tends to feelings of unrest, alienation and isolation.
With the amazing We Are Your Receiver, Klangstof immediately amassed an international audience. The band played at the prestigious Coachella, toured America with The Flaming Lips and received an Edison Award. Their supple pop dynamism is richly adorned with synths and electronics and continues to develop in surprising new ways on latest EP Everest.
During the Rotterdam Rooftop Days, we are keen to lift the extraterrestrial splendor of this band to new heights. The stars mainly consist of hydrogen, but tonight they’ll also receive a small amount of Klangstof.
M. & Winterdagen
Mink Steekelenburg, Martijn Eikenhout and Jaap Rovers form minimal / neoclassical collective Winterdagen; an exploration of deft, resonant and melancholic music. Previous EP Grenzeloze Rotterdammers was released on Swedish label 1631 Recordings, which previously worked with Hauschka and Dustin O ‘Halloran.
Winterdagen wrote their new composition Bouwgrond with Rotterdam spoken word artist M., about the past, present and future of the area around Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen. M. sees and translates the beauty of the everyday in his work, and in convergence with the resplendent experimental sounds of Winterdagen, his vital poetry is magnified even further.
